Liquid Electrical Tape

 By Ed Haas

I'm a vintage Honda owner for 20 years. CB 750's mostly. At last count I've owned 10 of them total. I would like to share a tech tip with you that will help keep vintage electrics running reliably. I know that all of us have had to clean corrosion from our battery boxes at some time in our lives. My tip is on how to keep it from gumming up your electrical connections in the future.

Liquid electrical tape! The stuff is amazing! Once you have your connections cleaned and put back together just paint the stuff on to seal that connection. It is then impervious to water, corrosion, nuts backing loose and having a intermittent problem.

I just redid the battery box area of a 1980 Honda 650 Custom I just bought. The previous owner did not have a overflow tube on the battery so you can imagine the mess that was. I used the liquid tape on all of my connections in that area after cleaning it up. I'm thinking of trying it to seal the plug type connections also.

The name of the product I used is called "Star Brite" Liquid Electrical Tape. The canister it comes in is about twice the size of a film canister and has an applicator brush built onto the cap. It's a four ounce can and so far I've seen the product in a black and a clear fluid. I use the clear so as to not look like I have this blob of stuff on my electricals.

Anyway, it works GREAT! I've never had problems using it. I also use it in my
remote control boats to water proof electrical connections that are not in the water tight radio box. Never let me down yet.

Try it, you won't be sorry.
